There are many tribes in Africa who distort

their bodies using scars or inserting a foreign object.

These distortions symbolize honor in these tribes

and are performed in special ceremonies.

As part of an exercise in a furniture course we

were asked to create a stool and "to restore its

honor." I decided to take inspiration from African

tribes, and restore to the stool his dignity through

methods of these tribes. I created a twisted stitched

stool with coarse stitches that simulate the scars

and the distortion on their bodies.

Method of work: Soldering iron bars and sewing

leather-like fabric.
